BIC HOSTS EXCITING FOURTH ROUND OF 2,000CC CHALLENGE

BIC, Sakhir – Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), “The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East”, hosted an exciting fourth round in the BIC 2,000cc Challenge today.
Stephen Kellogg, the series’ defending champion, and Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, a former titlist, shared the honours in the highly competitive meeting.
Racing was held along BIC’s 2.55-kilometre inner track.
The fourth round was organised by Bahrain’s Circuit Racing Club (CRC), in cooperation with the Bahrain Motor Federation and BIC.

In race one, Kellogg, driving a Honda CIVIC, stormed to a victory from pole position and won in a total time of 20 minutes 06.625 seconds.

He finished ahead of veteran Bahraini racer Abdulrahman Ghuloom (CIVIC), who managed to claim second place 20.185s behind Kellogg. Rookie Robin Brown (Renault Clio Sport) came in third 1m 21.576s from first position. Raed Himmo (Honda CRX), who was leading the championship standings heading into round one, finished in fourth place, two laps behind.Shaikh Hamad (CIVIC) could not complete the race, retiring from the event due to car trouble with nine laps still remaining. Hussain Karimi (Honda CRX) was also not classified. He did not start the race.

 

In race two, it was Shaikh Hamad’s turn to take the chequered flag.
Having dealt with his car’s issues from the opening sprint, Shaikh Hamad outdueled Kellogg and claimed his victory in a winning time of 20m 03.494s.
Kellogg finished 5.637s behind, while Ghuloom took his second successive podium in third 35.511s back.
Himmo was fourth 1m 03.887s from first place, and Brown fifth 1m 16.818s Karimi once again did not compete.
Earlier in the day, Kellogg had set the pace during free practices. He had a fastest lap of 1m 20.731s.
He then moved on to the qualifying session and clinched pole with a 1m 19.189s lap.

Following all of the day’s action, the round’s winners were presented their prizes in a special podium ceremony by CRC and BIC officials Jassim Ebrahim and Eyad Al Malood.
Round five will be taking place on February 1 and 2 as part of BIC’s National Racing Festival.
