Bahrain International Circuit, ‘The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East’, is all set to welcome back one of its more popular circuit racing championships this coming week, the highly competitive Bahrain International Circuit 2000cc Challenge.

The kingdom’s Circuit Racing Club (CRC), organisers of the championship, is on track with their preparations and ready to go for what will be their fourth successive year running the homegrown series. Once again, the CRC is working hand in hand with the Bahrain Motor Federation (BMF) and Bahrain International Circuit to ensure another high-quality campaign.
The 2010/2011 season flags off with round one this coming Friday, November 5, 2010. There will be six rounds in the championship, each consisting of two races. The season will culminate with the grand finale on April 22, 2011.

A few technical and sporting changes will be implemented for the new year.

One of them will be the introduction of two competition categories. The participants will now be split into Classes A and B, with Class A featuring cars of 1801cc to 2000cc, and Class B with cars 1800c and below. There will also be a limit to the number of tyres and engines used throughout the season by the participants, which will help reduce costs while maintaining the competitive nature of the championship. Tyres must be used at least two rounds (four races), while drivers using more than two engines in a season will be penalised. Following the upcoming first round next month, round two will be held on December 3. Round three is then scheduled for January 7 and 8 of next year, round four for February 4 and 5, and then round five on April 1. The season’s concluding meeting will be held on April 22, 2011, when the new champions of both Classes A and B are crowned.

Mazen Al Hilli, President of the CRC, said that there will be many surprises this upcoming season, especially following the changes implemented which will make all the heated action even more exciting.
Al Hilli added that he is excited about the upcoming battles that will be on hand between the many talented drivers that will be on the grid, some of whom include Rashid Al Jowder who will participate this year in Class B in a Honda Civic; Hisham Al Othman, who will be also competing in Group B in a Honda CRX; and Kuzbar brothers Hamad and Ahmed, who will each be competing in identical Ford Focus cars in Group A. Al Hilli thanked all those who have contributed to the organisation of the coming year, including the BMF and Bahrain International Circuit. He also thanked Bahrain’s media, who hold a prominent role in contributing to the success of the season.

Sherif Al Mahdy, Championship Manager of the Bahrain International Circuit 2000cc Challenge, in turn expressed his thanks and appreciation to the BMF and all their efforts in making this year’s championship the most anticipated yet. He also thanked the CRC and the unlimited support of Bahrain International Circuit. Al Mahdy added that he is looking forward to getting the season underway and seeing all the returning drivers battle it out with the many new entrants. The championship is a pioneer of national racing categories, giving local drivers a chance to compete in a professionally run series while driving on one of the world’s most popular race tracks.
