 BIC, Sakhir – Tuesday, November 4, 2008:

With just days to go until the third hosting of the Gulf Air Desert 400, the Batelco 2000CC Challenge is gearing up for its second season, as the first round looks set to support the V8 race.

Due to support the twelfth round of the Australian V8 Supercar Championship Series, the Challenge will be seen alongside the DHL Gulf Radical Cup and the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia and will be organized by the Circuit Racing Club, under the Bahrain Motor Federation, and promoted by the BIC in front of thousands of spectators.

Last season witnessed intense action between top driver and winner of the Challenge, Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa and arch-rival Mustafa Al Khan. This season will see some of last year’s competitors take to the track once again and take their shot at the number one spot including Mustafa Al Khan, Mohammed Saleh, Abdul Rahman Ghuloom, Mike Spahn, Tony Whitaker, Osama Al-Boflasa, Ali Al Kobaisi, Rashid Al Jowder, Stephen Kellogg, Mike Vien, Ahmed Kozber and Chris Rabie.

Mazen Al-Hilli, CRC President, highlighted that the first round of the new season will be supporting the Desert 400 race and will see two races take place on the weekend. He added that with superb sponsorship and backing from title sponsors, Batelco, the season looks set for greater success.

As for Martin Whitaker, Chief Executive Officer at BIC, he highlighted that following a highly successful 2007/2008 season, the decision to have the first round of the series support the upcoming Desert 400 was one which would see the series gain further recognition by standing on a platform next to top international races.

He added that local racing talents would have their chance to exhibit their skills in front of thousands of spectators in their self-built cars prepared to BMF sporting regulations.

With tickets selling out fast, fans can still get their tickets in advance to guarantee their seats from the BIC stand at Seef Mall or the BIC Welcome Centre. Tickets are 10BD for adults and under-18s can get in for free throughout the three day race weekend. Fans can contact the BIC hotline on 17450000 for more details or visit the website at www.bahrainv8.com.
