Autocross action at Bahrain International Circuit starts on Friday evening, with many of the Kingdom’s top drivers expected to suit up for all the thrills.
The event is being organized by Bahrain Motor Federation and represented by Bahrain’s Circuit Racing Club (CRC).
Another autocross meet will be held on September 11, keeping Bahrain’s motorsport fans on the edge of their seats with excitement on weekends during Ramadan.
CRC has allocated attractive cash prizes for the top three drivers in each of the five competition categories, which include Group A 4-Cylinder, Group A 4-Cylinger Additions, Group B 6-Cylinder, Group B 6-Cylinder Additions and Group C Open.
First place gets 50 BD, second gets 30 BD and third place takes home 10 BD.
Interested drivers may fill in entry forms at the venue itself between 9 p.m. and 9.30 p.m. Friday night.
All those who wish to compete must have at least a D Competition License from Bahrain Motor Federation. They must also pay a 10 BD entry fee.
In each event, there will be two sessions of practices for all participants before the main session gets underway. The duration of each session and each day’s final programme will depend on the total number of participants.
The competition will be held along a specially erected course at the car park of Bahrain International Circuit, with spectator seating just metres away from all the action to give motorsport fans a truly exciting and up-close experience.
All drivers will be required to adhere to the rules and regulations before taking part.
They all must also go through a series of checks on their cars to ensure that they meet the safety standards. These include making sure that the car is free of any leaks or tyre damage, the windows are in good condition, the driver’s seat belt is functioning properly, and there must not be any tools or equipment in the car that may be hazardous to the driver while competing. Any external features that may be potentially dangerous to spectators must also be removed.
This year’s autocross action follows the huge success of similar events held during Ramadan last year, when the rip-roaring action attracted thousands of petrol heads and adrenaline junkies to ‘The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East’.
